A couple of hours North of Tokyo by train, this mountainous area has tons of opportunities for hiking. I hiked from Yuomoto Onsen (the final stop in the bus trip from Tobu-Nikko station) to Lake Chuzenji.
This trailhead adds a short (40 minute) extension to the beginning of the Senjougahara Hiking Course, as it rounds Lake Yunoko.
